VIRTUAL JOB SHADOW
Welcome to your first day on the job! Watch this video to see what a day in the life of a Water Access Scientist is like.
STEP 1: Research existing methods water access scientists are using to help increase access to clean water. Use this page from the UN Goals for Sustainable Development as a starting point.
STEP 2: Based on your research, use materials around your house (tin foil, coffee filters, paper towels, etc.), build a water filtration device. The goal of your water filtration device is to make dirty water potable, meaning that it is safe to drink.
STEP 3: Test it! Get some dirty water from a nearby puddle or pond and pour it through your water filtration device into a plastic container.
STEP 4: Compare before and after results. Did your water cleaning device work? Why or why not? What could be improved?
STEP 5: Share a picture of your water filtration device and before/after water results in the Student Showcase to build your resume & raise awareness about water access problems.
