Shayla Johnson is a 12th-grade student at Louise Arbour Secondary School in Brampton, Ontario. Her love for the field of science began in the 3rd grade with her participation in the Science Olympiad. Since then she has participated in various voluntary programs and activities such as the STEM Olympics, McMaster Universities Eng Overnight: Gr.11 Girls, and Terra Cotta’s Benthic Macroinvertebrates High Skills Major Stream Assessment Training in pursuit of achieving her career goal as a Food microbiologist. Her accolades include environmental leadership roles in the areas of sustainability, pollution, and endangered species. She has remained passionate not only as a STEM advocate, but also in the enhancement of positive mental wellbeing in her executive position as a Project Wellness Member, and in her efforts to better her school environment and spread anti-bullying awareness as a Climate Leader for the 2018-2019 and 2019-2020 school years. She is ecstatic to begin her scientific pursuits this upcoming Fall as a biology major! She can be reached at Shaylabjohnson2@yahoo.com.
