What is STEAM?
STEM + art = STEAM
STEAM is the combination of science, technology, engineering, arts, and math.
Through the arts, complex STEM information is made relevant and understandable to everyday people.
STEM and the Arts: How they are connected
- Innovation and creativity are required components of STEM, both of which are deeply rooted in the arts.
- Art and design offer new ways to innovate and create within the STEM disciplines.
- Artists and scientists both ask big questions, and innovate along their path to finding solutions.
Artists and designers can effectively and holistically communicate complex data and scientific information in culturally relevant ways. Thus everyone, from children to professionals, can access and interpret the latest STEM breakthroughs in a way that makes sense to their own lives. Working together, STEAM can accomplish more than STEM alone!
