VIRTUAL JOB SHADOW
Welcome to your first day on the job! Watch this video to see a day in the life of an Ornithologist.
Here’s a fun and easy way to practice observation and scientific data collection – click here to learn how to make your own DIY Duck Call!
Follow the directions above to make your Duck Call. Then it’s time to practice some ornithology! Here’s a few ideas to get started as an ornithologist:
- Go outside and use your Duck Caller. Count how many ducks you can attract in one hour. (remember a key soft skill in this career is patience!)
- Repeat your experiment with different variables. For example try different times of day, different locations, etc.
- Research commercial Duck Callers. Are there any ways you can improve your DIY creation based on what you learn? If so, do it! Then repeat steps 1 and 2. Compare and contrast results.
Share your findings with your local Sportsman’s Club or Ornithology Department of a nearby university. See if they have any advice! You can also post a picture of your Duck Call creation in our Student Showcase to build your resume.
