STEP 1: Search around your home or classroom for something made of plastic.
STEP 2: Imagine you are an oceanographer who has been hired by the manufacturer of the plastic item you chose. They want understand how to reduce the impact of their product on the ocean.
STEP 3: Research online to learn more about ocean gyres. Where is the closest gyre to you? Where would this plastic go if it were to get in the ocean?
STEP 4: Now try your hand as an oceanographer! Based on what you learned about ocean gyres, what could be done in terms of engineering, design, chemistry, and/or physics to make this item less harmful to marine environments?
STEP 5: Prepare an Oceanographer Report to communicate your recommendations to the manufacturer. Then share in the Student Showcase to build your resume as an oceanographer!
