One of the most important parts of a neuropsychologist’s job is to administer different cognitive tests to analyze a patient’s mental capabilities. In this activity, you’ll not only administer these tests, but you’ll create the tests themselves!
STEP 1: Select three out of these five types of cognitive areas: Memory, Perception, Mental Calculation, Attention, Visual-Spatial Awareness. These will be the three types of tests you will be administering!
STEP 2: Research your three chosen fields to make sure you thoroughly understand them.
STEP 3: Create a test for each of the three cognitive areas. If you need some ideas, feel free to look at some examples online!
STEP 4: Find a friend or family member to take your tests! As they go through each of your tests, record the results and data of each cognitive area on a Google Doc or Spreadsheet. BONUS: ask another person to take your tests and compare the results of the two people who took them! How are they similar? How are they different?
STEP 5: Share your test results in the Student Showcase to build your resume as a neuropsychologist!
