VIRTUAL JOB SHADOW
Welcome to your first day on the job! Watch this video to see what a day in the life of a Museum Curator is like.
STEP 1: Choose a museum that you want to create an exhibit for! It can be a local museum or one you have always wanted to visit – you decide!
STEP 2: Use the museum’s website to research what kind of exhibits the museum already has.
STEP 3: Based on your research, decide what YOUR exhibit will be about – be creative and add value!
STEP 4: Once you know the topic of your exhibit, the next step is to conduct research to determine what will be in your exhibit. Here are some points to consider:
– What is the goal of your exhibit?
– What do you want people to know about?
– What do you want people to feel?
– How will people interact with your exhibit?
– What is in your exhibit? (research and define specific artifacts, images, text, layout, etc.)
STEP 5: Build a life size model of your proposed exhibit. Find a space in your school or home that would be similar in size to your museum exhibit. Then bring this space to life! Use whatever you have on hand to model the components of your exhibit – Legos, playdough, blankets, tin foil, printed out images – be creative!
STEP 6: Share a video with you giving a narrated tour of your museum exhibit in the Student Showcase to build your resume as a museum curator!
