Roller coasters are just one example of cool machines mechanical engineers work with! Here’s a mechanical engineering challenge to try:
STEP 1: Choose a location for your roller coaster. (A new ride for your favorite theme park? Mars? At the top of the Eiffel Tower? It’s your call!)
STEP 2: Use the internet to research the best ways to build a roller coaster – How will it be designed? How will it operate? What materials will it be made of? How will it take advantage of potential and kinetic energy? How will it be epic?
STEP 3: On paper, sketch a design for your roller coaster.
STEP 4: Using simple materials around the house/classroom, build a model of your roller coaster based on your design!
Optional: Share a picture of your roller coaster model with description in the Student Showcase to build your resume!
