VIRTUAL JOB SHADOW
Welcome to your first day on the job! Check out this video to see what a day in the life of a Firefighter is like.
STEP 1: A fire safety plan is a predetermined strategy to escape a potential fire in your home. Start by drawing a floor plan of your house using graph paper.
STEP 2: Next, locate TWO ways out of each room of your floor plan. Use a blue marker to draw X’s on these locations. If you need an extra tool to get out safely (like a ladder) indicate this on your floor plan.
STEP 3: From your bedroom (or all the rooms if you’re up for the challenge!), draw an escape route with a red marker using the blue X’s for reference from STEP 2.
STEP 4: Finally, talk to all your family members and decide together where your meet up location will be outside in the event of a fire. Make sure you write this on your fire safety plan so you remember!
STEP 5: Put your plan into practice! Imagine there’s a fire; use your fire safety plan to choose an escape route and get to your designated meet up place.
STEP 6: Once you’re done, reflect on how effective your safety plan is. Make any improvements if needed. Then upload your fire safety plan to the Student Showcase and start building your resume as a firefighter!
