One of the most important parts of an aesthetician’s job is to determine helpful and harmful factors to a patient’s skin. In this activity, you will determine the helpful or harmful effects of ingredients in everyday skincare products.
STEP 1: Search around your home for a bottle of lotion, facial wash, hand soap, or other skincare product.
STEP 2: Read the list of ingredients on the product’s label. Are there any ingredients that you can’t pronounce? That is usually a warning sign!
STEP 3: Go online to research any ingredients that you can’t pronounce or have never heard of. Create a data table to record your list of ingredients, how each affects human skin, and any potential side effects.
STEP 4: Prepare a report that explains your findings and concludes whether or not YOU would continue to use that product and why. If you would not continue to use that product, try to find a different one that does the same thing but without harmful ingredients.
STEP 5: Share your product recommendation in the Student Showcase to build your resume as an aesthetician! If you are interested in learning more, research online to find a licensed aesthetician training program in your area.
