Local small business among top educational technology leaders, innovators, and trendsetters
April 14, 2018. North Windham, CT. – Online education organization Career In STEM® is proud to announce that they have been named as a finalist for the national 2018 EdTech Awards. Career In STEM was recognized in the Career Planning Solution category, which falls under EdTech’s umbrella of “Cool Tool” awards.
First offered in 2010, The EdTech Awards recognize dynamic organizations that are leaders in educational technology, and feature only the biggest and best innovations; “We celebrate who’s who and what’s next in EdTech,” said Victor Rivero, who as Editor-in-Chief of EdTech Digest, oversees the Awards program.
The annual Awards program offers three main honors: Cool Tools, Inspiring Leaders, and Innovative Trendsetters. These categories are applied to the sectors of K-12 education, higher education, and skills and the workforce. The “cool tools” that helped Career In STEM earn its exclusive spot as a finalist include the Career In STEM Explorer. “When we first launched, I didn’t know if it would work,” admits Career In STEM CEO Ashley Pereira. “But this honor coupled with the successes of our online programs has helped me realize that technology can in fact be leveraged to help teens gain hands-on experience in lucrative STEM careers, make an informed career choice, and ultimately plug the leaky STEM pipeline,” says Pereira.
Launched in April of 2017 as a subsidiary of social enterprise Greater Good Consultants, LLC, Career In STEM’s audience stretches across 99 different countries and is growing daily. Locally, the Career In STEM family also continues to grow with the addition of two interns in the spring of 2018 from nearby Eastern Connecticut State University in Willimantic, CT. The company has also had the pleasure of partnering with nonprofits including Soroptimist, CT Women’s Hall of Fame, and many area middle and high schools. Being named as a finalist in the EdTech Award competition solidifies Career in STEM as the premier STEM career exploration provider for teens across the United States.
Career In STEM, as well as the other EdTech Award finalists, were chosen from thousands of entrants based on criterion such as pedagogical workability, efficacy, results, support, clarity, value, and potential. As Victor Rivero said regarding the finalists: “In no other field is the human spirit more alive than education, where educators and supporting technologists are literally shaping our future…thus, we very proudly recognize, acknowledge, honor, and celebrate the biggest names in EdTech.”
