It’s become sort of a mantra in this day and age: if you don’t know what to major in, go into computer science.
Don’t get me wrong – it’s great advice! Our world relies so much on technology that we need techies to keep things running. But in a few years when you’re a fresh-faced college graduate, it might be hard to know just what kind of jobs you can do with your degree.
So to save you that stress, here’s a list of things that you can do with that computer science degree
1.Computer Hardware Engineer
The Balance (which, by the way, is an excellent career source) puts Computer Hardware Engineer in its top five jobs you can pursue with a degree in computer science. These engineers are responsible for the advancements made in computer technology. They handle the entire process of creating new comp tech, including research, designing, developing and testing new components and systems. It’s a very important job, and boy can you make some money
2.Robotics Technician
Robotics Technicians have a very important – and cool – job. They take care of everything robot-related. That means building, testing, repairing and maintaining robots and their systems. Not only do these technicians have to be smart and tech-savvy, but their work is in high demand as more and more jobs become automated. Definitely a job that will see growth in the coming years!
3.Information Technology Specialist
IT Specialists play a huge role in keeping computers up and running. They help computer owners troubleshoot software and hardware issues by using networks and software. Specialists are also usually responsible for maintaining networks and keeping things running smoothly. Most organizations and schools have an IT department, so this is without a doubt an in-demand job!
4.Video Game Designer
Oooh, this sounds like a cool one! It’s true; computer science majors can pursue a lucrative career as a game designer. Game designers design the actual game, such as the environments, characters and missions, and work closely with other departments to make a clean, cohesive story for the player. You need to not just be good with computers to be a game designer; you have to be creative, too!
5.Electrical Engineer
Electrical Engineers help maintain many aspects of our lives. These engineers create all sorts of electronic equipment, including designing, developing and testing what they make. They also handle the coding of these devices to make the devices so that they can function properly. With our society so dependent on technology, Electrical Engineers will be needed for a long time!
6. Cyber Security Analyst
Cyber Security Analysts are pretty much a necessity for any website. They make sure that an organization’s computer networks are safe from hackers and any malware they may try to infect the website with. And with so many different kinds of malware out there (Trojan horses, backdoor viruses and ransomware, to name just a few), these analysts are always going to be needed!
So now you know what you can do with that computer science degree.
